Accessibility statement
This guide is built to be usable by everyone, including people using screen readers, keyboard navigation or magnification.
Last updated · August 2026
Our standard
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Accessibility is treated as part of building a page rather than as a later audit.
Measures built into the site
Pages are structured with semantic landmarks and a single, meaningful heading per page, in descending order. Every interactive control is reachable and operable by keyboard with a visible focus indicator. Images carry descriptive alternative text, and decorative imagery is hidden from assistive technology.
- Semantic headings and landmark regions on every page
- Full keyboard operability with visible focus states
- Descriptive alternative text on informative images
- Color contrast checked against AA thresholds
- Text that reflows and scales without loss of content
- Interactive map controls labelled and keyboard reachable
Known limitations
The interactive ward map is a supplementary way to explore Uptown; every landmark it shows is also described in text on the relevant ward and place pages, so no information is available only through the map. Third-party sites we link to are outside our control.
Reporting a barrier
If any part of this site is difficult to use, tell us what you were trying to do and what got in the way. Accessibility reports are treated as priority corrections.
