Privacy policy

Information we collect

If you write to us by email, we receive the address you wrote from and whatever you chose to tell us. If you submit a correction through the form on a page, we receive the page reference and the text you supplied.

Standard server logs record the request, an abbreviated IP address, the referring page and the browser user agent for security and diagnostics. Aggregate, non-identifying analytics may be used to understand which pages are read.

What we do not collect

We do not operate lead-capture forms, we do not request phone numbers, we do not run third-party advertising trackers, and we do not build behavioral profiles or sell, rent or trade personal information. There is no phone line to log calls on.

How information is used

Solely to answer you, to correct the guide, to keep the site secure and to understand in aggregate which pages are useful. It is never used to market on behalf of a third party.

Retention

Correspondence is kept only as long as it is useful for answering you and for maintaining a record of corrections, and is then deleted. Server logs rotate on a short cycle.

Your rights

You may ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Requests are handled through the privacy request page and are answered within a reasonable period.

Children

This site is not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under thirteen.

Third-party links

Pages here link to government records, institutions, venues and the four network firms. Those sites have their own policies, and this policy does not govern them.
